Kuwait International Airport ready to open T2
The government has completed a new passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport, called T2, which will run entirely on natural energy, Kuwait’s Al-Rai daily reported. The entire terminal is said to be built in an effort to achieve ‘LEED Gold Certification’.
This means that a building system that is entirely renewable energy and environmentally friendly will be awarded a ‘LEED Gold Certificate’ by the government. Additionally, the entire terminal is powered by solar energy with photovoltaic panels installed across the roof.
It is said to have the capacity to handle 25 million passengers annually and accommodate 51 boarding gates. Ample space has been allotted for the aircraft parking facility. According to this, 21 Airbus and A380 aircraft can be accommodated at the same time.
It is reported that the government is working to rehabilitate not only the airport but also the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port. It is planned to expand to handle 1.8 million containers in the first phase, 2.7 million containers per annum in the second phase and 3.6 million containers in the third phase.
The construction work of the airport has been completed and it is expected to open soon.
