Doctor Sentenced to 5 Years for Taking Salary Without Working for 15 Years

Kuwaiti doctor sentenced to five years in prison for receiving salary without working for 15 years
Kuwait City: A Kuwaiti doctor has been sentenced to five years in prison after it was discovered that he had been living in another country for 15 years while receiving his full salary from the government. Despite not attending work, his salary was credited to his bank account every month.
The doctor was employed at a mental health center under the Ministry of Health. Kuwait’s criminal court issued the verdict after the Ministry of Health’s legal department uncovered the fraud. Investigations revealed that the doctor had colluded with another ministry employee to ensure that his salary was paid regularly.
Upon discovering the irregularity, the legal department immediately referred the case to the Public Prosecution. The Ministry of Interior’s Criminal Investigation Department conducted a detailed inquiry and found airport records confirming that the doctor had been residing abroad during the entire period. Consequently, the case was forwarded to the court.
The convicted doctor remains outside Kuwait, and authorities are currently taking legal steps to extradite him back to the country.
