Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs Announces OMR14 Million in New Endowment Assets for 2023
Muscat: In 2023, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs reported that the total new endowment assets exceeded OMR14 million. This revelation came during the ministry’s annual meeting, where the activities and achievements of the waqf (endowment sector) for the year 1444-1445 AH were outlined.
As per the presentation, community support for mosque reconstruction amounted to OMR20,750,000. Additionally, more than OMR25 million was donated to provide basic services to 12,000 mosques.
At the annual meeting, contracts for endowment investments were signed for four projects:
- The construction of Square Commercial Complex in Al Khoud, Wilayat of A’Seeb, valued at OMR3.14 million.
- Establishment of a commercial building (OMR759,550).
- Commercial building for Bahla Mosque (OMR339,561).
- Model entertainment project in the Wilayat of Nizwa (OMR335,380).
The event, held under the auspices of Sultan Salim Al Habsi, Minister of Finance, was accompanied by the Labour Ministry’s inspection team conducting raids in Al Dakhiliyah, resulting in the arrest of several expatriates.
