Series of Earthquakes Rock Afghanistan, Prompting Concerns for Safety and Reconstruction

The earthquake, measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale, struck Afghanistan at a depth of 100 kilometers. This event marks the fifth earthquake to hit the country in quick succession. Just a week prior, a powerful earthquake in the Herat province resulted in over 4,000 casualties and extensive damage to residential properties.

The tremor in the Herat province, with a magnitude of 6.3, was followed by powerful aftershocks. The Ministry of Disaster Management of Afghanistan, led by the Taliban, reported that 1,983 residential houses were destroyed in 20 villages in Herat. As of now, the Taliban has not provided an official estimate of the number of casualties and injuries resulting from the earthquake in Herat province.
