Saudi Arabia Launches $100B AI Project to Compete with UAE Tech Hub
$100 Billion AI Project Aims to Make Saudi Arabia a Regional Tech Leader

Saudi Arabia Unveils $100 Billion AI Project to Compete with UAE’s Tech Hub
Saudi Arabia is set to launch an ambitious AI project named “Project Transcendence,” backed by up to $100 billion. Aimed at positioning the kingdom as a technological hub to rival the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this initiative will focus on building a robust AI ecosystem through major investments in data centers, startups, and key infrastructure, according to insiders. The state-backed entity leading the project is expected to play a pivotal role in attracting tech talent, fostering partnerships, and creating a solid foundation for AI development within the country.
The project is designed with a structure similar to Alat, a Saudi fund dedicated to sustainable manufacturing and also backed by $100 billion from the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Alat, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, co-invests with international tech giants, setting a precedent for the new AI initiative. Project Transcendence will follow a similar collaborative approach, seeking partnerships with prominent global tech firms and co-investing with them to build Saudi Arabia’s AI capabilities.
Collaborations and Strategic Investment Focus
A $5 billion to $10 billion joint investment between the Saudi PIF and Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is a crucial component of Project Transcendence. By advancing Arabic-language AI models, this collaboration seeks to increase the region’s AI capabilities. Saudi officials anticipate that this partnership will act as a springboard for more extensive initiatives to position Saudi Arabia as a competitive center for artificial intelligence.
The kingdom’s AI strategy, a pillar of its Vision 2030 economic diversification plan, aims to elevate Saudi Arabia to a global position in AI innovation by the end of the decade. Saudi officials envision a powerful AI entity comparable to Abu Dhabi’s G42 tech conglomerate, a significant player in the UAE’s AI landscape. Project Transcendence’s ultimate goal is to support AI-focused startups, build infrastructure, and narrow the knowledge gap between Saudi Arabia, the U.S., and China in AI expertise and innovation.
Aligning with Vision 2030 and Long-Term AI Goals
As part of its Vision 2030 framework, Saudi Arabia aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by cultivating new revenue sources, with AI as a core area of investment. Saudi Arabia’s commitment to AI includes creating ministries and research centers dedicated to the technology, as well as producing large language models similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
With Project Transcendence, Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a strong contender in the global AI race, with ambitions to become a top 15 country in AI by 2030. By focusing on building an AI ecosystem capable of exporting advanced technology, Saudi Arabia plans to redefine itself as a technology powerhouse, contributing to the region’s economic growth and establishing itself as a leader in the global AI industry.
This project reflects Saudi Arabia’s drive to lead in AI innovation while transforming its economic landscape and creating opportunities for new industries to thrive.
