UAE and WHO Conduct Major Humanitarian Evacuation of Wounded Palestinians from Gaza

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates and the World Health Organization (WHO) collaborated to transport 86 seriously wounded Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, including children and cancer patients in need of immediate medical attention. This was a major humanitarian effort. In addition to providing access to cutting-edge medical treatments that are not available in Gaza, this evacuation gave patients in desperate need a lifeline and helped sustain Palestinian civilians during the continuing crisis in Gaza.
Accompanied by 124 family members, the evacuees were transported via the Kerem Shalom crossing to Israel’s Ramon Airport before being flown to Abu Dhabi.

As part of a larger effort to aid the Gaza population, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has conducted the 22nd evacuation flight from the UAE. The program is to treat 1,000 cancer patients and 1,000 injured youngsters in UAE hospitals. 2,127 patients and their companions have been successfully evacuated to the United Arab Emirates thus far as a result of this humanitarian endeavor.

The UAE is committed to helping Palestinian civilians in the midst of the ongoing catastrophe in Gaza, said Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations and a member of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council.
“This new initiative reflects the strong levels of cooperation between the UAE and the World Health Organisation, and exemplifies the UAE’s steadfast and enduring commitment to support the brotherly Palestinians amidst the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip,” Al Shamsi stated.

He further highlighted the UAE’s dedication to collaborating with the UN, international partners, and relief agencies to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians, adding, “We remain resolute in our collaboration and will continue to undertake a leading and pioneering role in providing advanced healthcare to wounded Palestinians and those suffering from incurable diseases, using all available means to support this humanitarian crisis.”

Since December 2023, the UAE has set up a field hospital in the southern Gaza Strip, treating 50,489 cases, providing essential medical services to those in need. In addition, a hospital ship anchored at Al-Arish Port since February 2024 has treated 6,405 cases, extending vital healthcare to those unable to access traditional medical facilities due to the conflict. Alongside medical aid, the UAE has delivered over 43,000 tonnes of essential supplies, including food, medical equipment, and relief goods, underscoring its commitment to humanitarian support in the region.

The UAE’s commitment to the welfare of Palestinian people is demonstrated by this massive relief and medical support program, which also emphasizes the country’s leadership in providing critical medical treatment and humanitarian aid to communities at risk during emergencies.
