Saudi Arabia Expresses Interest in Multibillion-Dollar Stake in Indian Premier League (IPL)

Saudi Arabia has reportedly shown interest in acquiring a multibillion-dollar stake in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the world’s most lucrative cricket league. Advisers of Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have engaged in discussions with Indian government officials regarding the potential move of the IPL into a holding company with an estimated valuation of up to $30 billion. These talks took place during the crown prince’s visit to India in September. As part of the proposal, the kingdom suggested an investment of up to $5 billion in the league and expressed interest in leading an expansion into other countries. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which oversees the IPL, has not yet provided an official response to the reports. The IPL, known for attracting top players and coaches, has been one of the most financially successful cricket leagues globally since its inception in 2008.
