Oman Participates in International Conference on Women’s Empowerment in Islam

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, is actively participating in the “Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment” conference held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This prestigious international conference, taking place from November 6 to 8, 2023, is held under the esteemed patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The event is a joint effort between the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Secretariat General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Heading the Omani delegation at the conference is Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, the Minister of Social Development. The primary objective of the conference is to spotlight the accomplishments and progress of Muslim women, from the early days of Islam to the present, and to underscore their pivotal role and contributions to development in OIC-member nations.

The conference features a series of panel discussions where officials, scholars, and intellectuals will delve into various aspects of women’s status and rights in Islam. These conversations will encompass topics such as opportunities and challenges for Muslim women in contemporary societies, empowering women in education, and their roles in the workplace. The conference serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue on enhancing the status and contributions of women within the Islamic world.
