Ramzan 2025: Oman Adjusts Working Hours for Public and Private Sectors
Muscat: Oman has officially set revised working hours for government and private sector employees for the month of Ramadan 1446 AH/2025. The Ministry of Labor has issued a decree detailing the changes, in order to ensure that work schedules are in line with the spiritual and physical needs of those observing the fast.
Employees in the public sector will officially work five straight hours, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. But now that a flexible work schedule has been implemented, workers can begin their shifts at any moment between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm, provided they finish the allotted five hours of labor. Furthermore, remote work is allowed when appropriate; but, in order to maintain operational efficiency, at least 50% of employees must be physically present at work.
Muslim workers will only be allowed to work six hours a day, with a maximum of thirty hours per week, in the private sector.
This adjustment is in line with Oman’s labour laws, which mandate reduced working hours for fasting employees during Ramzan to support their observance of religious duties.
The holy month of Ramzan is expected to commence on Saturday, March 1, but the official start date will be determined by Oman’s moon-sighting committee, which will confirm the sighting of the crescent moon.
