Oman Air Enhances Cargo Operations with Delivery of First Dedicated Freighter
Oman Air Cargo has reached a significant milestone with the delivery of its first dedicated cargo aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF). This fuel-efficient aircraft is designed to provide up to 20% lower fuel use and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per tonne compared to the previous generation of standard-body freighters. With the ability to carry up to 23.9 tonnes of freight at a range of 3,750 km, the new freighter will support Oman Air’s growing customer base and contribute to the development of Oman’s air cargo logistics sector.
This delivery is part of Oman Air’s broader cargo growth strategy, as it reported a 42% increase in cargo volumes at the end of the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. The expansion of cargo operations is driven by the airline’s capacity expansion across its passenger aircraft fleet.
The new dedicated freighter positions Oman Air to capitalize on Muscat’s strategic location as a hub connecting East and West, facilitating the smooth movement of cargo through its advanced hub at Muscat International Airport. The enhanced cargo capabilities are expected to further strengthen Oman Air’s role in the air cargo market.
