Manchester United’s Premier League Woes Continue
Manchester United’s Premier League season got off to a rocky start as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday. This loss marks their third defeat in the first five Premier League games of the season, a performance not seen in 34 years.
The match at Old Trafford also brought an end to their 20-game unbeaten run at home in the Premier League. While debutants Rasmus Hojlund and Sergio Reguilon showed promise, and Marcus Rashford exhibited energy on the left wing, defensive lapses proved costly for United.
Despite a promising start, with Rashford making threatening runs and Hojlund coming close to his maiden Premier League goal, Brighton took the lead in the first half.
In the second half, a failure to intercept a pass led to Brighton doubling their lead. Another goal from Brighton extended the lead to 3-0. United managed to pull one back with a stunning strike from Hannibal Mejbri, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.
With this defeat, Manchester United finds themselves in the 13th position in the Premier League table, with two wins, three losses, and six points. Brighton, on the other hand, is sitting in fourth place, having won four out of five matches and accumulating 12 points.
Next up, Manchester United faces Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, followed by a Premier League clash with Burnley. Brighton kicks off their UEFA Europa League campaign against AEK Athens and returns to Premier League action against Bournemouth.
