Kuwait airport is reeling without cleaners as contract expires

As the cleaning contract of Terminal T1 of Kuwait International Airport has expired, there is now a question mark over sanitation work in the area. As it is the end of summer holidays, many passengers are likely to arrive at the airport. So in this case, if the cleaning work is not carried out, it will lead to a big problem, the Directorate of Aviation is currently seriously considering this problem.
The cleaning company, which was already carrying out sanitation work at the airport, accused the aviation directorate of not receiving the dues due to them. However, it had announced that it was withdrawing its services and machinery as the contract had expired. And the cleaning company had told us that we have not received any information regarding the extension as the contract ended on July 25.
According to official correspondence, the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) proposed to extend the contract in January at a cost of KD805,000 ($2.67 million).
However, the aviation directorate informed that the approval from the concerned agencies is still pending. Not renewing the contract considering the health of passengers arriving at the airport during the busy travel season is currently receiving criticism from everyone.
In this case, the company has urged the DGCA to pay the dues without deductions and officially approve the concession and contract extension. The cleaning management said that the service will continue subject to the airport management meeting the company’s conditions.
In this critical situation, there have been criticisms that both the Directorate of Civil Aviation and the cleaning agency should handle the issue smoothly keeping in mind the hygiene of the passengers arriving at the airport.
