Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Announces Separation from Long-term Partner Andrea Giambruno

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni took to social media to announce her separation from her long-term partner, journalist Andrea Giambruno, on Friday. The statement indicated that their nearly decade-long relationship had come to an end.

Meloni, 46, expressed that their paths had diverged some time ago, signaling the need to acknowledge this new phase. The couple, who were not married, share a seven-year-old daughter named Ginevra.

While acknowledging the challenges they faced, Meloni thanked Giambruno for the years they spent together and for their daughter, whom she described as the most significant aspect of her life.

Giambruno, who hosts the show “Diario del Giorno” on Italian free-to-air television channel Rete 4, faced criticism for comments made in August suggesting that women could prevent sexual assault by avoiding excessive alcohol consumption. Meloni clarified at the time that she should not be held accountable for her partner’s remarks and stated that she would refrain from commenting on his behavior in the future.

In her statement on social media, Meloni affirmed her intention to preserve the memory of their past and their friendship, especially for the sake of their daughter. She emphasized her determination to protect the seven-year-old girl, who cherishes both her mother and father.

Meloni, who was born in Rome in 1977, became associated with the youth wing of the Italian Social Movement (MSI) at the age of 15. She met Giambruno, born in Milan in 1981, in 2015 when he was working as a writer for a TV show featuring Meloni.
