Flydubai Places Order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners Valued at $11 Billion

In a significant move to diversify its current fleet, Dubai-based airline flydubai has placed an order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners at the Dubai Airshow. The announcement, made on the first day of the airshow, was attended by key dignitaries, including Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This strategic decision follows flydubai’s inaugural order for 50 Boeing 737 aircraft in 2008, and it marks the fourth aircraft order since the airline’s establishment in 2008.

The order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners is valued at $11 billion (Dh40.37 billion), signaling a significant investment by flydubai to enhance its fleet capabilities. flydubai’s move to diversify its fleet, which currently consists entirely of Boeing 737 aircraft, highlights the airline’s commitment to expanding its network and meeting growing demand on existing routes.

The announcement took place in the presence of key figures, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai. The order reaffirms the airline’s dedication to enabling more people to travel and cater to expanding horizons. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, known for its operational excellence, fuel efficiency, and passenger appeal, offers seating for more than 290 passengers and has a range of 14,010 km. Its versatility makes it suitable for short- and medium-haul markets.

Flydubai’s order follows Emirates’ mega-order for 95 Boeing aircraft worth $52 billion (Dh191 billion). Boeing has emerged as a prominent player at the Dubai Airshow, securing the biggest deals of the day And they revealed that it is still evaluating engine options for its first Dreamliner order, indicating a meticulous approach to selecting the most suitable engines for the aircraft.The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners are expected to play a central role in flydubai’s strategic expansion plans. The aircraft’s long-range capabilities will enable flydubai to explore new routes and add capacity across its network.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, along with Stan Deal, expressed optimism about further strengthening the partnership between flydubai and Boeing. The addition of the Dreamliners is set to contribute to the airline’s growth and enhance its capabilities in the competitive aviation landscape.
