Extended Weekend Alert: Sharjah Public Sector Workers Enjoy Four Days Off
Public sector workers in Sharjah are in for a treat with a four-day weekend as the government announces a holiday to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). The emirate’s Human Resources Department has declared Thursday, September 28, a holiday for all government departments, institutions, and bodies. With the regular Friday to Sunday weekend, employees will enjoy an extended break until work resumes on Monday, October 2. This decision was communicated to department heads and directors through an official government circular.
In addition to the public sector holiday, the UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has also announced a paid public holiday for private sector employees. On Friday, September 29, 2023 (1445 AH), private sector workers will have a day off to observe the Prophet’s birthday. This directive is in line with the Cabinet Resolution outlining approved public holidays for both public and private sectors in 2023.
