China Aims to Mass Produce Human-Like Robots Within Two Years, Hoping to Lead the Global Robotics Industry
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China has laid out an ambitious plan to mass-produce human-like robots within the next two years. According to the MIIT blueprint, the goal is to make China a leader in the field of robotics, with a focus on establishing an innovation framework for humanoid robots and ensuring the country can produce core parts of the robots domestically. The plan aims for the products to meet advanced international standards and be used in harsh environments, manufacturing, and service sectors. China hopes to have two to three companies with global influence in the humanoid robot industry by 2025, creating a “safe and reliable supply chain” for the technology. The directive emphasizes the need to focus on the “brain,” “cerebellum,” and “limbs” of the robots, particularly in developing highly reliable robots for harsh or dangerous conditions. The move is part of China’s broader effort to boost technological self-reliance amid increased restrictions on its access to advanced U.S. chips. The humanoid robot market is estimated to have a demand for 1.77 million machines by 2030.
