Authority for Public Services Regulation Initiates Review of Summer Electricity Bills

In response to growing concerns raised on various social media platforms regarding surging electricity bills over the recent summer months, the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has taken a proactive stance. Acting on a mandate from the Council of Ministers, APSR has undertaken a thorough examination of electricity costs, with a steadfast commitment to maintaining service quality. The objective is to devise sustainable strategies and alternatives to mitigate the impact of high electricity bills during summer for the forthcoming years.
As part of immediate measures, a decision has been reached to amplify the previously instituted reduction rate on electricity bills for the “residential category.” This enhancement entails an increase from 15 percent to 30 percent of the total bill value. This adjustment will be applicable to all subscribers holding basic and national subsidy accounts for the billing cycles of July and August 2023.
