AI-Powered Smart Taxis in UAE

In a groundbreaking move towards the future of transportation, Hyundai UAE unveiled the region’s inaugural AI Smart Taxi, set to revolutionize public transportation. The cutting-edge Sonata hybrid vehicle, boasting a sleek silver livery akin to the Capital’s taxis, was showcased at the Abu Dhabi Smart City Summit. Equipped with advanced artificial intelligence technology, interior monitoring systems, optimized routing, streaming services, and an array of other premium features, these smart taxis are poised to hit the roads within the next two months. Hyundai UAE is in discussions with both public and private sector operators, including the Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi and the Road and Transport Authority in Dubai, signaling a collaborative effort to enhance AI, safety, and security in the country.
Suliman Al Zaben, director of Hyundai UAE, emphasized that this venture represents a significant leap forward in leveraging AI for public transportation. The smart taxis come equipped with four AI-powered cameras that monitor critical elements like driver alertness and reaction times to ensure passenger safety and prevent accidents. Al Zaben also highlighted the innovative use of facial recognition technology to maintain a secure environment throughout the journey. Additionally, the taxis feature a cutting-edge lost and found system, capable of identifying and alerting drivers about items inadvertently left behind by passengers. This pioneering system ensures swift and efficient communication between the driver and passenger, enhancing overall customer experience.
Furthermore, the taxis incorporate edge computing technology, optimizing response times and conserving bandwidth. Interactive screens provide passengers with essential trip information, tourist destinations, and details about their driver. The technical equipment inside the vehicle enables the collection of live data for remote monitoring, allowing for prompt action when needed. With a control and monitoring panel in place, the system ensures that drivers operate efficiently and that the vehicle is used appropriately.
Al Zaben expressed pride in this milestone achievement, highlighting it as a testament to the forward-looking vision of Juma Al Majid Establishment, the exclusive distributor of Hyundai cars in the UAE. He concluded by confirming the imminent launch of these smart taxis, set to grace roads across the UAE, embodying the nation’s commitment to smart mobility and innovation in the transportation sector.
