UN Demands Immediate Humanitarian Ceasefire in Gaza Amid Escalating Conflict

The United Nations has reiterated its demand for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza amid the war with Israel. The UN expressed concern over the situation and emphasized the need to protect civilians and provide essential aid, including food, water, medicine, and fuel, to Gaza. The agency called for both parties to respect their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law and urged the release of all civilians held hostage.
As for the death toll, it’s reported that over 10,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since hostilities began on October 7. This includes a significant number of children, women, and elderly individuals, highlighting the impact on vulnerable populations. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also expressed concerns over clear violations of international humanitarian law in the conflict.
