UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy Aims for 200,000 Jobs and Climate Neutrality

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) aims to create 200,000 new jobs as part of its Net Zero 2050 strategy, which was unveiled by Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment. The strategy, announced at the UAE Government annual meetings, outlines a comprehensive action plan to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, contributing to global mitigation efforts. The plan is expected to stimulate the economy, representing about 3% of the national GDP, and advance society. The strategy encompasses over 25 programmes across six core sectors: power, industry, transport, buildings, waste, and agriculture. It sets emission reduction targets for each sector, emphasizing efficiency improvements, increased deployment of renewable energy, and the adoption of sustainable practices. The focus includes clean energy, sustainable transportation, green buildings, nature-based solutions, and carbon capture technologies. The UAE has committed to achieving specific emission reduction targets in each sector, ultimately reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
