In a groundbreaking stride towards global gender equality and technological advancement, the world’s inaugural framework for gender balance within the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) took center stage at the ‘Gender Balance and 4IR’ workshop during the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils in Dubai.

Distinguished leaders, experts, and stakeholders united to discuss and prepare for the imminent launch of this groundbreaking framework. Engineered to empower women and foster gender parity within the Fourth Industrial Revolution, this framework stands as a testament to the UAE’s dedication to gender equilibrium, innovation, and technological progress.

Fostered through a partnership between the UAE Gender Balance Council and the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution UAE (C4IR UAE) affiliated with the World Economic Forum, this collaborative framework represents the UAE’s role as a global trailblazer in setting new international standards for gender equality.

Mona Al Marri, Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, emphasized the UAE’s position as a global exemplar in shaping these international standards. She stated, “The UAE has effectively established itself as a prominent global collaborator in enhancing opportunities for women in a wide range of sectors.”

Al Marri went on to highlight, “The upcoming launch of the framework for gender balance in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is set to empower governments, private sector organizations, and academia to actively pursue gender balance.”

The workshop was inaugurated by Her Excellency Huda Al Hashemi, Member of the UAE Gender Balance Council and Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategic Affairs, and saw the participation of influential figures including Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director at the World Economic Forum.

Al Hashemi underlined the UAE’s impressive performance in gender balance indices recognized by global institutions, including the World Bank, World Economic Forum, and the United Nations Development Programme. She further emphasized that the forthcoming framework signals the leadership’s unwavering commitment to empowering Emirati women.

“The UAE leadership’s approach has helped Emirati women accomplish unprecedented milestones,” Al Hashemi noted.

The event underscored the potential of women to contribute significantly to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It also emphasized the collective commitment needed to ensure gender balance in all spheres.

The Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils, jointly organized by the UAE government and WEF, brought together approximately 600 international experts and intellectuals across 30 councils, along with government officials, representatives from international organizations, and academia. This collaborative effort marks a monumental step towards creating a more inclusive and equitable future in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
