UAE Launches Visa Amnesty Program with Discounted Flights for Overstayers

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has announced a visa amnesty program, offering discounted flight tickets to illegal residents who decide to leave the country.

According to reports, residents who are legally staying in the emirate and wish to return to their home country can apply for the visa scheme from September 1 to October 30, 2024.

Major General Obaid Muhair bin Sorour, Deputy Director General of Dubai’s General Directorate of Resident and Expatriate Affairs (GTRFA), confirmed that UAE airlines including Emirates, Etihad and Air Arabia have been contacted. Khaleej Times reported that those who want to leave the country but are facing financial constraints.

Muhair Bin Suroor said that amnesty will be granted for all types of visas, including tourist and expired residency visas. Those born without documents can adjust their status using the visa program.

Also, absconders and absconders can apply from sponsors. However, people who enter the country illegally are not eligible for amnesty.

There are discounted flight tickets aimed at helping illegal residents who want to leave the UAE without incurring heavy fines. The ICP stresses that the amnesty is an opportunity for all lawbreakers to change their status in the country and raise the UAE’s standing in the field of human rights.

The ICP insisted that the discounted flight tickets were meant to support illegal residents who wanted to leave the UAE without incurring heavy fines. It said those wishing to leave the country would not face an entry ban and could return to the UAE at any time with the appropriate visa.
