The 42nd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) is set to enchant book lovers with over 1.5 million titles, all at discounted prices. Running from November 1, the event will see creators, publishers, and bibliophiles from 108 countries converge at the Expo Centre Sharjah for 12 days of literary indulgence. Under the theme ‘We Speak Books,’ visitors can explore a global tapestry of literature, meet renowned authors, and partake in a myriad of cultural activities. This year, the fair shines a spotlight on South Korea, celebrating its rich cultural heritage and contemporary contributions as the guest of honour.
A stellar lineup of more than 2,000 publishers will represent their nations, offering a diverse array of intellectual and creative works. The fair promises a diverse array of activities, including appearances by Emirati and Arab figures, notable international guests like Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, and sessions led by experts in various fields. Additionally, workshops covering topics from comics to mental health will be conducted in six interactive spaces.
To commemorate South Korea’s special participation, a cultural programme titled ‘Imagination Without Borders’ will feature 17 activities, including cultural programs, panel discussions, and musical performances by Korean artists. The fair’s Social Media Station will host workshops and sessions covering a wide range of topics, from AI content creation to enhancing partnerships with social media influencers.
For theatre enthusiasts, the event will showcase 130 theatrical performances from artists and performers hailing from 14 countries. The much-anticipated Thriller Festival, in partnership with Thriller Festival NY, will spotlight ten international authors, engaging mystery and suspense enthusiasts in riveting discussions.
As part of the cultural festivities, the Cookery Corner will host 12 international chefs, each presenting their distinct culinary flair and cultural influences through 45 dynamic activities. From cultural celebrations to engaging discussions with literary giants, the Sharjah International Book Fair 2023 is poised to be an extraordinary celebration of the written word.
