In a remarkable display of passion for falconry, a peregrine falcon from Al-Awiqila city, Northern Borders Region, was purchased for an astounding SR250,000 ($67,000) at the Saudi Falcons Club Auction held at its headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh. This record-breaking sale highlights the deep-rooted cultural significance of falconry in Saudi Arabia.
Bidding for the prestigious bird, locally known as a shaheen, commenced at SR60,000 ($16,000) and culminated in an impressive final price. Another shaheen from Al-Lith city, Makkah Region, also fetched a substantial sum of SR135,000 ($36,000). With such impressive results, upcoming auction nights are anticipated to witness even more record-breaking sales.
