Salalah’s Organic Fertilizer Plant Aims to Boost Production to 100,000 Tonnes Annually
Partnership with Nakheel Oman Development Company and be'ah Drives Environmentally-Friendly Initiative
Salalah’s Organic Fertilizer Production Plant, located in the Dhofar Governorate, is on track to ramp up its annual production to 100,000 tonnes within a year. Since its launch in the first quarter of this year, the facility has already successfully produced 25,000 tonnes of organic fertilizers.
Operated under the auspices of Nakheel Oman Development Company in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, this initiative is a pivotal environmental project in the region.
Sarah bint Zaher Al Afan, Director of Farm Planning at Nakheel Oman Development Company, highlighted the plant’s current production capacity of 25,000 tonnes of organic fertilizers. The factory employs cutting-edge technology to transform green waste, sourced in partnership with Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah), along with locally procured animal waste from cattle breeders, into organic fertilizers.
An essential milestone in the project’s success was the agreement forged with Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) for the procurement of agricultural waste (green waste) from the Raysut industrial estate dumping area in the Wilayat of Salalah, underscoring the cooperative effort towards sustainable agricultural practices.
