New York City Mayor Issues Travel Alert Ahead of Expected Heavy Rain and Flooding

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has issued a travel alert in anticipation of heavy rains and potential flooding on Sunday and Monday. In a video message, Adams warned residents about the upcoming weather conditions, urging them to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
Adams advised New Yorkers to stay at home on Sunday night if possible and to exercise caution if they need to travel. He emphasized the importance of residents inspecting catch basins in their neighborhoods, clearing debris that may impede drainage, and securing loose items that could be affected by strong winds.
The National Weather Service office in New York predicts up to four inches of rain late Sunday night into Monday morning, raising concerns about flash flooding, particularly in poorly drained urban areas. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected, with the possibility of reaching 60 mph.
Adams encouraged residents to sign up for alerts and stay informed about the changing weather conditions. The travel warning comes after the New York area experienced heavy rain and flooding nearly three months ago, causing disruptions to transportation and flooding in various areas.
