International Medical Conference in Muscat Addresses Cutting-Edge Advances in Orthopedics and Hand Surgery

In a collaborative effort between Amara Hospital in Tirupathi, India, Lama Polyclinic in Muscat, and the Muscat Family Physicians Group, an international medical conference was held in Muscat, Oman. The event welcomed esteemed guests Dr. Taimoor, Head of Plastic Surgery, and Dr. Ahmed Al Wahaibi, Head of Hand Surgery at Khoula Hospital.

Renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Prasad Gourineni, from Amara Hospital, took the stage to enlighten the audience on “Advances in Arthroscopy, Arthroplasty, and Osteotomy. Dr. Gourineni emphasized the significance of specialized training in the emerging field of hip preservation. He shed light on various diagnosable hip disorders and stressed the importance of timely intervention to normalize hip function and prevent further damage. Dr. Gourineni highlighted that, when surgery is necessary, many issues can be managed with minimally invasive techniques like arthroscopy. He reassured that modern hip surgery is safer and does not hinder future hip arthroplasty.

Following this, Dr. Vasudeva Reddy, a consultant hand and foot microsurgeon from Amara Hospital, presented intriguing cases in hand surgery and discussed the essential care of diabetic feet. Dr. Reddy provided insights into the complexities of preserving injured fingers, even in severe cases, and touched upon rare replantation surgeries. His presentation also covered advancements in diabetic foot care, encompassing procedures for ulcer surgeries, infected ulcers, and the pre-gangrene stage.

Both presentations were exceptionally practical, supported by compelling case studies, diagnostic imagery, and informative videos showcasing operative procedures. The sessions were followed by an engaging and interactive brainstorming session, where both speakers addressed the queries and doubts raised by the attending doctors.

Dr. Sanjay Dalal, founder of Muscat Family Physicians’ Group and the event organizer, emphasized the dynamic nature of healthcare and the importance for practicing doctors to stay updated with the latest advancements in the field.
