International Day of Families: UAE’s strong family support drives sustainable progress
UAE reiterates its commitment to family-focused policies as key to sustainable development and social cohesion

UAE Celebrates International Day of Families, Reinforces Commitment to Family-Centric Development
The United Arab Emirates will celebrate International Day of Families on May 15 under the theme “Family-Based Policies for Sustainable Development: Towards the Second World Summit for Social Development 2025”, joining the rest of the world in this global celebration. The event underscores the UAE’s continued commitment to placing families at the heart of developing the country.
The UAE’s National Vision places families at its core
Families in the UAE are seen as the cornerstone of a secure and harmonious society. Driven by the belief that strong families nurture generations with values, identity and preparedness for the future, family well-being is prioritized in all its policies, development programs and laws. Families foster the values of accountability, loyalty and resilience – qualities critical to a country’s growth and unity.
The UAE has adhered to these ideals since its establishment. People are the country’s real asset, according to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Under President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with assistance from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and under the direction of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the “Mother of the Nation,” whose guidance in social and family matters has influenced national initiatives, this vision is still being carried out.
Ministry of Family Activities
The recently established Ministry of Family is a significant step forward in promoting family well-being. The ministry supports policies that uphold work-life balance, family stability, and caregiver and parent empowerment. Its collaborative strategy is to work with communities to develop programs that address issues such as childcare, marriage readiness, and intergenerational support.
In addition, initiatives include promoting flexible work arrangements and ensuring families’ active participation in the country’s social and economic progress.
Global vision, local direction
As the world prepares for the second World Summit on Social Development in 2025, the UAE is highlighting its role in influencing global discussions around family-centered development. The UAE aims to serve as a role model for other countries in building societies based on solidarity, shared responsibility, and sustainable development by implementing inclusive policies and exercising strong leadership.
The message is clear: domestic strength is the foundation of national power. The foundation of a resilient and successful future is a safe, strong family.
