Indian Prime Minister Announces Relief Measures After Tragic Mumbai Fire Incident
In the wake of the devastating fire that erupted in a building in Mumbai’s Goregaon area, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow for the lives lost and announced crucial relief measures.
The blaze, which occurred in the early hours, claimed the lives of seven individuals and left over 50 others injured. Prime Minister Modi, in a heartfelt message, extended his condolences to the grieving families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. He revealed that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each will be provided to the next-of-kin of the deceased, while Rs 50,000 will be given to those injured.
Furthermore, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also expressed his grief over the tragic incident and declared that the State government would offer financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the victims. He emphasized that the injured individuals would receive necessary treatment at the government’s expense.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured that he is in constant communication with the BMC and Mumbai Police officials to ensure that all essential aid is provided. He extended his deepest condolences to the families mourning their loved ones and wished a swift recovery to those in hospitals.
At present, 51 individuals have been rescued and are receiving treatment at the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College and Dr RN Cooper Municipal General Hospital. Regrettably, five of them are reported to be in critical condition. Out of the total, 35 individuals are undergoing treatment, while four have been discharged.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the fire, categorized as level 2, was contained to the lower floors of the seven-story residential building with shops on the ground floor. Several vehicles and scrap materials were also consumed by the flames. Residents stranded on upper floors were successfully rescued.
Mumbai civic, police, and fire brigade officials are on-site, actively engaged in firefighting and rescue operations. The tragic incident has prompted a collective effort to provide support and relief to the affected individuals and families.
