Dubai Tram Marks Nine Years of Service
Dubai Tram, launched on November 11, 2014, has achieved significant milestones in its nine years of operation, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The tram has served approximately 52 million riders and covered 5.3 million kilometers during this period. RTA highlighted that they have successfully reduced tram journey times by two minutes through rescheduling and adjustments to the trip timing system, contributing to improved efficiency, reliability, and safety.
The 14.5 km Dubai Tram runs along Al Sufouh Road, connecting Dubai Marina to Palm Jumeirah and Al Sufouh. It is an integral part of Dubai’s public transportation network, linking the Dubai Metro and The Palm Monorail. Serving popular areas like Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai Media City, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Knowledge Park, the tram plays a crucial role in decongesting traffic in these tourist destinations.
One notable feature of Dubai Tram is that it is the first tramway project outside Europe powered by a ground-based electric supply system along the track, eliminating the need for catenary (hanging) cables. RTA considers the achievements of Dubai Tram as a testament to its commitment to providing seamless passenger transport, enhancing user experience, and maintaining high satisfaction levels among tram riders.
