Dubai Road Improvement Project Targets 70% Reduction in Travel Time

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is progressing with a significant road improvement project aimed at reducing travel time and improving traffic flow in key corridors, including routes leading to Sharjah. The Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads intersection improvement project is currently halfway through its development, with the RTA reporting it is now 50% complete.
As part of this comprehensive infrastructure initiative, the construction of four bridges spanning nearly 3 kilometers is underway. The primary objective of the project is to enhance traffic conditions along Garn Al Sabkha Street, a critical link connecting Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads. The improvement plan is strategically designed to ensure seamless traffic flow between the two major highways and the connecting First Al Khail and Al Asayel streets.
Upon completion, the project is expected to deliver significant reductions in travel time, particularly benefiting commuters traveling from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road heading towards Al Qusais and Sharjah. The RTA anticipates a 40% reduction in peak-hour journey times, from 20 minutes to just 12 minutes for this route. Moreover, the project aims to achieve an impressive 70% reduction in journey time, decreasing it from 21 minutes to just 7 minutes for traffic traveling from Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Road, connecting to Jebel Ali Port.
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, highlighted the significance of this project in addressing congestion and improving the overall efficiency of Dubai’s road network. The efforts align with the broader strategic vision of the city to enhance infrastructure, support economic activities, and provide a more seamless experience for residents and commuters.
The Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads intersection improvement project is part of Dubai’s continuous commitment to infrastructure development, ensuring that the emirate’s road network keeps pace with the growing demands of a dynamic and rapidly expanding urban landscape. The project’s progress marks a significant step toward achieving the overarching goals of reducing traffic congestion, enhancing connectivity, and creating a more efficient and sustainable transportation system.
