Dubai Police Introduces Smart Traffic Systems to Combat Distracted Driving and Enhance Road Safety
Dubai Police has recently introduced cutting-edge smart traffic systems designed to enhance road safety and monitor violations more effectively. These advanced technologies are capable of detecting infractions even when drivers attempt to hide their actions, such as using tinted windows or engaging in distracting activities while driving.
The Director of Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, stressed the value of these technologies in maintaining road user safety. The intelligent systems can detect infractions such as failing to wear seat belts, using a cell phone while driving, and other distractions that impair a driver’s focus.
Alarming instances of distracted driving have been reported by Dubai Police. In one instance, a woman was seen using two phones at the same time while driving, while another person was reading a newspaper, which totally blocked their vision of the road. These incidents highlight the urgent need for greater road safety awareness.
Dubai Police has started an awareness campaign with the hashtag #Safe_Road_for_All to address this problem. The campaign includes a film that highlights the risks of distractions including using a phone while driving and driving when distracted.
The video also emphasizes the possible consequences of the behavior as it mentions recent changes in traffic laws under Decree No.30 of 2023. The amendments allow vehicles to be impounded for 30 days if drivers are distracted by phones or other activities.
The goal of these initiatives is to reduce traffic accidents and improve public understanding of traffic laws. Dubai Police’s campaigns aim to raise awareness of key safety measures such as adhering to speed limits, maintaining safe distances, respecting pedestrian rights, and generally following road regulations. These measures are consistent with the police’s main objective of improving city safety by prioritizing traffic safety and reducing accident rates.
