Diriyah Unveils Plans for Saudi Arabia’s First Opera House

Diriyah, a historic quarter in the Saudi capital, announced plans for the Royal Diriyah Opera House, the first of its kind in the Kingdom. The announcement was made during Diriyah Company’s Bashayer 2023 Event, where a strategic partnership with the renowned architectural firm Snøhetta was also unveiled for the opera house’s design. Located near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of At Turaif in Diriyah, the opera house will be built by Diriyah Company and operated by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), contributing to the city’s growth and development efforts. The 45,000-square-meter opera house, informed by Najdi-style architecture, aims to seamlessly blend heritage and innovation, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The project supports RCRC’s goal of transforming Riyadh into a global cultural and creative hub, showcasing Diriyah as a center of culture and creativity. The Royal Diriyah Opera House is part of the second phase of the Diriyah masterplan and will serve as a platform for diverse cultural performances, fostering cultural exchange and engagement. The project reinforces Diriyah’s commitment to cultural development excellence and its mission to enhance Riyadh’s global standing as a desirable city to live, work, and visit.
