COP28 in Dubai to Feature Dedicated Space for Climate Activists’ Demonstrations

As the global community gears up for COP28, set to take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, organizers have confirmed the establishment of a designated space for climate activists to voice their concerns and advocate for urgent climate action. The space, known as the Voices for Action hub, will be situated in the Green Zone adjacent to the Mobility entrance. This announcement comes as a significant move towards fostering inclusivity and providing a platform for diverse voices within the climate change discourse.
The Voices for Action hub, located within the Green Zone, will serve as a focal point for climate activists to assemble peacefully, engage in meaningful dialogue, and make their voices heard. This initiative aligns with the joint statement issued by the UAE, as the host country, and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) back in August. The statement emphasized the importance of inclusivity, transparency, and respect in the COP process, highlighting the need for unity and more ambitious action.
The UN Climate Summit comprises two main zones: the Blue Zone, exclusively accessible to UN-accredited participants for formal negotiations and high-level events, and the Green Zone, an open space for the public to promote dialogue and awareness around climate action. The inclusion of a dedicated area for climate activists reflects the commitment of the UAE and the UNFCCC to making COP28 the most inclusive climate conference to date.
COP28, presided over by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, aims to fast-track the energy transition, address climate finance with a focus on people’s lives and livelihoods, and prioritize inclusivity in decision-making processes. The event is expected to host over 70,000 delegates, including heads of state, civic and world leaders, environmental experts, and advocates.
The Voices for Action hub stands as a tangible manifestation of the commitment to inclusivity, providing activists with a platform to express their concerns, contribute to the discourse on climate action, and engage with a global audience. The COP28 Presidency emphasizes the critical role of inclusivity in achieving transformative progress across the climate agenda, fostering collaboration to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.
As the world looks to COP28 as a pivotal moment for climate action, the Voices for Action hub emerges as a symbol of the collective effort to address climate challenges, ensuring that diverse perspectives play a crucial role in shaping the future of our planet.
