Campaign to plant 1 million tree seeds: protect natural resources

The Environment Authority (EA) is undertaking a campaign to plant one million seeds in the mountains of Dhofar Governorate in Oman. The campaign will continue till July 26.
It is worth noting that the Environment Authority is carrying out this campaign in an effort to propagate native wild plants as part of the target of planting ten million trees in Oman.
Bin Mohammed Al Shehri, head of the General Directorate of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, said that this campaign is carried out annually in areas affected by the kharif season from Mirfat Wilayat to Talqud Wilayat in the east.
At the same time, this campaign is being carried out with the aim of improving plant growth by targeting agricultural areas, fishing areas, grazing areas and water-rich areas in the western regions.
He also explained that we are currently raising awareness about the collection, preparation, classification and proper preservation of wild plant seeds required for planting trees. He also noted that around 108,000 seeds were planted in Tumraith and Salalah, areas affected by the atmospheric depression earlier this year.
The campaign aims to plant seeds of popular and traditional forest trees especially in Dhofar regions. These include sidr, wild fig (al-qayd), aloe vera and al-qufut. It is significant that this campaign is being implemented with the aim of protecting the traditional natural resources of the country.
