Wizz Air Launches Operations from Abu Dhabi’s New Zayed International Airport Terminal
Budget airline Wizz Air has marked a significant milestone by commencing flights from the newly renamed Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi. Operating from the state-of-the-art Terminal A, Wizz Air has become one of the first national carriers to make this transition, solidifying its role in the expansion of Abu Dhabi’s aviation sector.
The inaugural flight, destined for Sphinx International Airport in Cairo, took off from the Abu Dhabi airport. This route is scheduled to operate every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, providing enhanced connectivity between the two cities.
Johan Eidhagen, Managing Director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The move to the new terminal and launching our new route to Sphinx, Cairo, is a milestone moment in our phenomenal recent growth.” He emphasized the airline’s commitment to contributing to Abu Dhabi’s evolution into a global gateway and aviation hub.
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Interim CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, highlighted Wizz Air’s pivotal role in the region’s aviation landscape, citing the airline’s rapid expansion and growing passenger base. She underlined Terminal A’s importance in facilitating the continued growth of national carriers and supporting Abu Dhabi’s strategic visitation plans.
Currently serving over 39 destinations in 27 countries, Wizz Air is poised for further expansion in 2024, solidifying its position as a key player in the global aviation industry.
