Unified Bus Fare Structure Introduced in Abu Dhabi

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi has unveiled a unified fare structure for all public buses in the emirate. Under the new system, the basic bus fare for both city and suburban routes will be Dh2, with an additional charge of 5 fils per kilometer. The maximum fare is capped at Dh5.

One notable change is that passengers who use more than one bus to reach their final destination, regardless of the direction (city to suburbs or vice versa), will no longer have to pay the Dh2 base fare multiple times. The fare, paid through the ‘Hafalat’ smart card at the end of the journey, is calculated based on the distance traveled from the boarding point to the final drop-off location.

The new fare structure is designed to facilitate more seamless and cost-effective journeys for passengers using multiple buses. However, there are conditions for the “free change of buses,” including changing buses within a reasonable time frame, a limit of two changes (a maximum of three buses for the trip), and no changes in the opposite direction of the itinerary.

The move aims to enhance the convenience and affordability of public transportation in Abu Dhabi, encouraging more residents to use the bus services for their daily commutes.
