UAE Issues Red Alert for Heavy Fog as Winter Conditions Set In
The National Meteorological Center (NCM) has issued a red alert on Friday as fog continues to hit the UAE. A red alert means residents should be on high alert as conditions could become severe.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents that horizontal visibility has deteriorated, which may further decrease at times in some coastal and inland areas till 9.00 am.
As the UAE transitions into winter, the weather starts to get comfortable as the temperature drops. As winter approaches, authorities have lowered speed limits for the safety of motorists as morning fog has been prevalent in the UAE for the past few days.
In a post on X, Abu Dhabi Police called on motorists to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during fog. Motorists are asked to follow the changing speed limits displayed on electronic information boards.
In a video released by the storm center, heavy fog can be seen on the roads leading to Abu Dhabi.
Today will be a bit cooler, with temperatures hovering around 37ºC from yesterday’s 38ºC. In interior areas the mercury can be as low as 17ºC.
While the Meteorological Department has predicted foggy conditions in various parts of the country this morning, the weather today is expected to be generally fair and partly cloudy at times.
Wet conditions are expected overnight and will continue into Saturday morning with a chance of mist or fog forming over some coastal and inland areas.
Light to moderate winds are expected over the country.
The sea is slightly shallower in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea areas.
