The prestigious competition marks a significant step forward in the development of Emirati sports, and serves as a key platform for developing athletic talent in line with the ambitious National Sports Strategy – 2031.
Minister Al Falasi, who arrived to watch the women’s basketball tournament, personally interacted with the participating players, offered words of encouragement and urged them to perform their best throughout the competition. His presence underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a strong university sports ecosystem that not only enhances the UAE’s position as a regional and global sports hub, but also underscores the key role of universities in identifying and developing athletic talent.
Football, basketball, and volleyball are the three main sports in which 1,822 male and female athletes from 28 universities are battling hard at the UAE University Games. Solution+ and MBME Group are major sponsors of the tournament, which is organized by Abu Dhabi Entertainment Company (ADEC) in association with the Ministry of Sport and the UAE Sports Federation for the Institutions of School and University Education.
The competition was fierce throughout the preliminary, quarter-final and semi-final stages of the qualifiers held in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. The finals on April 19 and 20 will be the culmination of the athletic spectacle, followed by an awards ceremony to recognize the outstanding achievements of the participants.
Basma Ahmed Abu Al Nasr, CEO of ADEC, described the tournament’s operation as a testament to effective stakeholder collaboration. It encourages young athletes to pursue excellence in sportsmanship and creativity, acting as a catalyst for the development of a thriving university sports culture.
