Sikandar Raza’s Last-Ball Six Seals Thrilling ILT20 Win for Dubai Capitals

In a captivating showdown against the Desert Vipers, Sikandar Raza’s unbeaten 60 off 45 balls proved pivotal in guiding the Dubai Capitals to a thrilling five-wicket win on Friday. Raza’s standout performance included orchestrating crucial partnerships, notably a fourth-wicket, 79-run stand with Sam Billings in 54 balls, and a fifth-wicket partnership of 40 runs in just 23 balls with Dasun Shanaka.

With 13 runs required off the last over, the pressure mounted as UAE’s 19-year-old medium pacer, Ali Naseer, stepped up to bowl. Despite Naseer’s valiant efforts, Raza held his nerve, smashing a last-ball six over long on to clinch victory for the Capitals.

The Desert Vipers had set a challenging target of 171 for the loss of seven wickets, with Alex Hales contributing 66 runs off 37 balls. However, Raza’s determined innings ensured a remarkable turnaround.

Reflecting on his match-winning moment, Raza remarked, “I said to myself, I don’t think he will go short as I had hit one earlier out of the ground. I will hold my shape and try and hit it in the air and hit it as well as I can.” Praising his opponent, Ali Naseer, Raza added, “He bowled really well; these are things we have learnt all through our careers. For a 19-year-old to bowl the final over, it was fantastic, and he nearly won it for them.”

Sam Billings commended Raza’s resilience, stating, “He has shown his true character and skill. I told him that one shot can get him back, we just had to hang in there and the spinners did a fantastic job, and they changed the game.”

Colin Munro, Vipers captain, acknowledged the Capitals’ strong bowling performance but lamented his team’s inability to capitalize on good starts. He praised Ali Naseer’s efforts and expressed optimism for the team’s prospects in future encounters.
