UAE President Establishes UAE Aid Agency to Strengthen Global Humanitarian Efforts
ABU DHABI: The President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has issued Federal Decree No.2024 establishing the United Arab Emirates Aid Agency affiliated to the International Humanitarian and Philanthropy Council. The agency must have an independent legal personality and full legal capacity to function.
The agency is tasked with implementing foreign aid programs in accordance with the general policy of international humanitarian affairs. Its responsibilities include planning, supervising, implementing and monitoring official government support with a particular focus on disaster relief, early recovery programmes, post-conflict stabilization, development programs and capacity building programmes.
Commenting on the establishment of the UAE Aid Agency, Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Presidential Court, said, “The establishment of the UAE Aid Agency is a continuation of a solid process. A humanitarian legacy established by our founding father, the late Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
“This approach reflects the UAE’s commitment to addressing humanitarian challenges and fostering sustainable development globally. The country continues this mission under the wise leadership and sustained support of President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who affirms the commitment of the leadership, government and nation to advance this noble humanitarian endeavour.
Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, said, “The establishment of the UAE Aid Agency reaffirms the UAE’s humanitarian role in providing essential aid, improving living conditions and supporting communities and people on all continents.
He emphasized the UAE’s commitment to collaborate with international partners to create a concrete and lasting positive impact, especially in areas affected by crises and instability, focusing on key areas such as education services, health facilities and infrastructure sectors to achieve sustainable development. Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Veterans Affairs and Chairman of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, said, “By establishing the UAE Aid Agency, we reaffirm our commitment to address Global humanitarian challenges and promoting sustainable development in a strategic and integrated manner.
He added that the agency aims to improve the impact of foreign aid, a global priority of the UAE. In conjunction with the UAE’s role and status in regional and international humanitarian and development efforts, it seeks to maximize positive outcomes in the implementation of humanitarian relief programs, initiatives and development projects worldwide.
The UAE is considered one of the most generous donor countries in the world. The latest figures show that since its establishment by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE has provided $98 billion (AED 360 billion) in foreign aid, benefiting more than a billion people worldwide.
