UAE Launches Facility for 1GW Continuous Renewable Energy Production
Masdar and EWEC launch solar-battery facility for uninterrupted 1GW clean energy

UAE Launches World’s First 24-Hour Renewable Energy Project in Abu Dhabi
In a major development for clean energy, Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) have announced the launch of the world’s first large-scale, 24-hour gigascale project in Abu Dhabi.
The new project aims to combine solar power with battery storage to provide uninterrupted renewable energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The announcement was made by Mohammed Hassan AlSuwaidi, Minister of Investment and CEO of ADQ, and Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Innovative Technology of the UAE, during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
This milestone, considered a significant step in the global clean energy transition, confirms the UAE’s leadership in renewable energy development.
With a 5.2 gigawatt-hour solar photovoltaic plant coupled to a 19 gigawatt-hour battery storage system, the project is the largest integrated solar and battery energy storage system in the world and will supply up to 1 gigawatt of baseload power each day.
Dr. Al Jaber emphasized that as the project offers a means of guaranteeing continuous, clean power generation, it is imperative to address the intermittent problem of renewable energy.
In addition to creating over 10,000 new jobs and stimulating economic growth, the project is expected to set a global standard for technological innovation in energy storage and solar power.
The facility will also increase grid efficiency and stability by resolving the intermittency problems that have long impeded the growth of renewable energy.
