UAE Issues Security Guidance for Reporting Lost or Stolen Mobile Phones
The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in the UAE has issued security guidance for individuals who have lost or had their mobile phones stolen. TDRA urges the public to promptly notify UAE telecom service providers in such cases and emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about the procedures for reporting incidents. UAE telecom providers offer various channels for reporting, including call centers, live chat services, and other affiliated channels. The process involves verifying the identity of the person reporting, confirming device details, and adding the device’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) to a blacklist, preventing its connection to any wireless network in the UAE. The TDRA also encourages individuals to employ protective measures like passwords, two-step verification, biometrics, and device-tracking features. Customers are reminded to provide precise information about the incident and liaise with both service providers and relevant security authorities. The initiative is part of TDRA’s efforts to regulate the telecommunications sector and enhance customer experiences in the UAE.
