UAE and Indonesia Strengthen Bilateral Ties Through High-Level Delegation Visit
Jakarta, Indonesia – February 2: Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, led a high-level delegation from the United Arab Emirates that recently returned from an official visit to Indonesia, which took place from January 29 to February 1. The mission was led by Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.
Reflecting their mutual goals for stronger diplomatic and commercial ties, the visit sought to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries in a number of areas.
Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, the UAE’s ambassador to Indonesia and the non-resident ambassador to the Democratic Republic of East Timor, together with representatives from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), accompanied Minister Al Mazrouei. To discuss the extension of collaborative projects and look into new opportunities for cooperation, the group held a number of high-profile meetings with senior Indonesian officials.
Strengthening UAE-Indonesia Relations
Minister Al Mazrouei and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met at the presidential house in Jakarta to begin the visit. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan were among the UAE leaders who extended warm greetings to Al Mazrouei during their talks.
Additionally, he reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to developing closer political, cultural, and economic ties with Indonesia.
President Subianto greeted the team and emphasized how eager Indonesia is to further its ties with the United Arab Emirates. In order to coordinate their economic plans for mutual benefit, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expediting the completion of bilateral agreements and joint ventures. In order to establish both countries as major actors in the regional economy, talks focused on strengthening collaboration in the areas of infrastructure, commerce, investment, and renewable energy.
High-Level Meetings to Drive Economic and Investment Cooperation
Throughout the visit, Al Mazrouei and his delegation engaged in productive discussions with several key Indonesian ministers and officials. These included Agus Harimurti, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development; Sugiono, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sri Mulyani, Minister of Finance; Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Head of the Housing Task Force; Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Investment; and Ridha Wirakusumah, CEO of the Indonesia Investment Authority. The discussions’ main objectives were to move investment projects forward and find new commercial prospects that fit both nations’ strategic aspirations.
The third roundtable meeting between the UAE and Indonesia, which was presided over by Minister Sugiono on behalf of Indonesia and Minister Al Mazrouei on behalf of the UAE, was a noteworthy highlight of the trip. Senior officials, business executives, and representatives from a range of Emirati and Indonesian firms attended the event, which was organized by the UAE Embassy in Jakarta and held at the Raffles Hotel. Emirates Airlines, Abu Dhabi Ports, Tabreed, Masdar, Mubadala, Borouge, ADNOC, Edge, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Emirates Global Aluminum, IFFCO, Alef Education, and Elsewedy Electric were among the participating companies.
Expanding Economic Collaboration Across Key Sectors
In priority areas like conventional and renewable energy, aviation, ports and logistics, infrastructure, mining, cooling technology, strategic industries, defense, food security, housing and construction, banking, and education, the roundtable discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation. Participants also discussed issues that UAE companies doing business in Indonesia confront and looked into ways to make cooperative projects and efforts easier to undertake.
With trade volumes and investment flows rising steadily in recent years, the UAE and Indonesia have already built a solid foundation for economic cooperation. The talks reaffirmed both countries’ dedication to fostering a welcoming business climate, enabling foreign direct investments, and putting sustainable economic policies into place.
Future Prospects for Bilateral Engagement
Towards the conclusion of the visit, Minister Al Mazrouei and the UAE delegation met with several high-ranking Indonesian officials, including Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of the National Economic Council of Indonesia; Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs; Zulkifli Hasan, Coordinating Minister for Food; and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. During these talks, both countries reaffirmed their dedication to advancing their collaboration in vital fields like logistics, transportation, energy, and food security.
As Indonesia positions itself as a major regional power and the UAE aggressively pursues economic diversification and sustainable development, the two nations stand to gain from the expansion of their bilateral ties. It is anticipated that long-term partnerships that would strengthen commercial, economic, and diplomatic connections between the UAE and Indonesia will be made possible by the agreements and cooperation started during this visit.
