UAE and Finland Strengthen Educational Collaboration to Foster Innovation

On January 14, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and UAE Education Minister Sarah Al Amiri met on January 14 at the Zayed Education Complex in Dubai to discuss promoting innovation in education and enhancing educational collaboration.

The visit coincided with the 50th anniversary of Finland and the UAE’s diplomatic ties, with the goal of effectively exchanging experiences in curriculum design, innovative teaching strategies, and teacher training programs.

“The UAE is growing rapidly, and the country has ambitious goals in areas such as climate change mitigation and digitalization. This visit shows that Finnish companies offer more expertise in these key areas than ever before,” Orpo said in her speech during the visit.

The UAE’s Ministry of Education is eager to take advantage of Finland’s educational experience and the strong relations that exist between the two nations, as the UAE is the biggest market for Finnish exports in the Gulf and Middle East.

Ashwin Assomul, partner at L.E.K. Consulting and head of the company’s Global Education Practice, stated, “I am not surprised that this collaboration is in place, as Finland is considered a great example of high-quality education and the UAE strives to improve its education system and make it better every year.”

The United States has been quite successful in bringing a diverse curriculum to schools in order to create genuinely world-class education. Additionally, it continuously compares, analyzes, and adapts global best practices, Assomul added.

Al Amiri, who gave the Finnish delegation an introductory tour of the Zayed Education Complex, highlighted its state-of-the-art facilities, including modern classrooms, advanced laboratories, a playground and creative spaces. He stressed that these features reflect the UAE’s educational vision and commitment to fostering innovation as a sustainable approach to education.

With the world’s largest network of private schools, the country has invested extensively in research and raising the quality of higher education.

“Policymakers are focused on creating high-quality education systems that are recognized globally,” Assmoull noted.

“This collaboration helps build relationships on a government-to-government basis, and generates interesting innovations.”
