UAE Declares Three-Day National Mourning Period for Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has announced a three-day national mourning period in honor of the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah. The declaration comes as a mark of respect for the leader’s passing.
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered that flags be flown at half-mast starting immediately at all government departments within the UAE and its embassies and diplomatic missions abroad. The announcement was made through the state news agency Wam.
In a post on the social media platform X, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan extended heartfelt sympathies to Kuwait and its royal family. Additionally, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, expressed condolences, recognizing Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah’s six decades of service to his country with sincerity.
Born in 1937, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah started his political career at the age of 25 and served as governor of Hawalli province. He later became the interior minister and assumed the role of Emir in 2020 following the passing of his predecessor, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah. The world’s oldest crown prince, Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber, now 83, is in line to take over as Kuwait’s ruler.
