UAE Assumes Chair of INTERPOL Governance Committee
Emirates strengthens global leadership in security cooperation and international governance through INTERPOL appointment

UAE Elected to Lead INTERPOL’s Committee on Governance
Paris [France], April 12: The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Ministry of Interior, has been elected to chair the Committee on Governance — a key advisory body within INTERPOL — highlighting the nation’s growing role in global security cooperation and international governance.
Lieutenant Colonel Dana Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director General of the International Affairs Office at the Ministry of Interior, secured this prestigious position by earning 67 percent of the votes from INTERPOL member states during a recent committee session held at the organization’s headquarters in Lyon, France.
INTERPOL’s internal governance structure is frequently reviewed and strengthened by the Governance Committee, ensuring its accountability. Its efforts foster high standards of openness, efficiency and equity across its international operations and support the strategic expansion of the organization.
The UAE’s efforts to build significant alliances and actively support cooperation in international security and law enforcement have reached a new high with this appointment. It also reflects the country’s continued commitment to promoting best practices in global governance.
The 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly, held in Glasgow, Scotland, in late 2024, officially established the Governance Committee as a standing committee.
Formerly known as the Governance Working Group, this newly created permanent body is now a key part of INTERPOL’s decision-making structure. The UAE’s leadership makes it the first nation to chair the committee since its transformation into a standing body.
As part of its responsibilities, the Committee will examine INTERPOL’s foundational documents — including its Statute and General Regulations — and offer recommendations to the General Assembly on proposed changes or clarifications. The committee also deals with governance-related issues affecting the organization’s operations and member states.
The committee, which is comprised of experienced experts in governance and public international law, ensures that diverse perspectives from INTERPOL’s global membership are represented in its advisory work.
During its two-year term as Chair, the UAE will play a key role in leading the committee’s discussions, monitoring progress on key governance reviews, and presenting findings to both INTERPOL’s General Assembly and Executive Board. The UAE will help ensure smooth coordination between member states and further strengthen the organization’s governance structure.
This achievement underscores the UAE’s continued commitment to international cooperation and its commitment to supporting global security institutions through active leadership and partnerships.
