UAE Announces Registration Dates for Haj Pilgrimage in 2024
The UAE’s General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments has revealed the registration dates for individuals planning to embark on the Islamic pilgrimage, Haj, in 2024. Pilgrims can register through the authority’s app from December 5 to 21. Saudi Arabia, the host country for the pilgrimage, will welcome pilgrims to Islam’s holiest sites starting in June. The first batch of pilgrims is anticipated to arrive in May.
Due to limited quotas for the Haj pilgrimage, early registration is advised, as emphasized by the UAE government. The quotas are established by Saudi Arabia to ensure that believers from all over the world have the opportunity to undertake this sacred journey.
Traditionally, the UAE issues Haj permits exclusively for Emiratis, while expatriates must follow the quota and procedures set by their respective home countries. Pilgrims usually arrange their pilgrimage through authorized tour operators, which offer comprehensive packages covering visa expenses, accommodations, transportation, and meals.
Last year marked the return to full-capacity pilgrimages for the first time since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Saudi Arabia welcomed over 2 million pilgrims in 2023, a substantial increase from the 900,000 attendees the previous year, as the kingdom lifted all Covid-related restrictions.
Haj stands as one of the five pillars of Islam, obliging Muslims to undertake the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime if they are physically and financially capable.
