In a devastating turn of events, the eruption of Indonesia’s Mount Marapi has left a trail of destruction, with eleven climbers confirmed dead, and more than a dozen still missing. The picturesque scene turned into a nightmare on Sunday as the volcanic eruption caught climbers off guard.

Abdul Malik, Head of the Padang Search and Rescue Agency, shared the grim news, stating, “There are 26 people who have not been evacuated, we have found 14 of them, three were found alive and 11 were found dead.” The community is grappling with the loss of lives and the uncertainty surrounding the missing climbers.

Indonesia’s location on the Pacific’s “Ring of Fire” comes with the constant threat of volcanic activity. The country boasts 127 active volcanoes, each presenting a unique challenge and risk. Mount Marapi, standing at 2,891 meters, added to the list of active volcanoes, has now left a community in mourning.
