UAE Welcomes 2025 with Stunning Meteor Shower and Planet Parade
Emirates sky dazzles with up to 120 meteors per hour and celestial wonders this January

UAE: 2025 Starts with Spectacular Meteor Shower and Planet Parade
Residents of the United Arab Emirates can anticipate two amazing astronomical phenomena in the first month of 2025: a planetary parade and the Quadrantid meteor shower.
The Quadrantids, the year’s first meteor shower and the only significant one until August 2025, will illuminate the night sky with dazzling streaks of light, making it an essential sight for anybody interested in stargazing.
There will be a parade this year in addition to the meteor shower. There won’t be marching bands or drums, but there will be celestial bodies—a planetary parade.
Shower of Quadrantid Meteors
The UAE held drone and fireworks displays in a number of sites to greet the New Year. However, the universe appears to be ringing in the New Year with a display of natural light as well. The Quadrantids meteor shower will signal its arrival in 2025, turning the sky into a painting of light over four days.
The Quadrantids have a comparatively brief peak activity phase, so if you want to catch one, you’ll need to move quickly. Residents should anticipate seeing up to a stunning 120 meteors per hour during its peak from 2am to 4am on January 4, according to Khadija Al Hariri, operations manager at Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG).
The best viewing conditions, as with most astronomical phenomena, are clear, dark sky far from city lights. It is most visible close to the Boötes constellation.
